Getting Started:

What is Scoop-Alert.com?
Scoop-Alert.com is designed to allow news providers to stay in touch with subscribers and listeners by their mobile phones. This service allows each media to post up to a two minute news post that can be accessed by anyone by mobile phone or device. The report can consist of all sports, or all news, or all weather or any combination the poster wishes.

How do I join?
To become a member of Scoop-Alert.com, go to the "Register" section on the front page and if you are a news agency, then go to “Register to Post News” enter information to register yourself. Then click the "Submit" button and you're done.

I forgot my user name or password. How do I log back into the site?
If you forgot your password, you can retrieve it here
If you forgot your user name, you will have to sign up again through respective registrations for member/news agency

How do I change my password?

  1. Log in with your user name and current password.
  2. Click the "Change Password" link in the upper-left-hand corner.
  3. Enter your current Scoop-Alert.com password.
  4. Enter your new password in the "New Password" field and the "Confirm New Password" field.
  5. Click the "Update" button.

Can I change my Scoop-Alert.com username?
Currently, you cannot change your username— there is simply too much information tied to each account. You may, however, sign up for a new account with the username that you desire.

How do I change the email address tied to my Scoop-Alert.com user name?

  1. Log in with your user name and password.
  2. Click the "Register to Post News" OR “ Register for Service” link in the upper-left-hand corner
  3. Click into the “E-Mail Address” field.
  4. Type your new email address into the Email Address field.
  5. Click the "Update" button.

Do I have to sign up to upload videos?
Yes. Since videos are attached to your profile, news agencies must sign up as a member to upload videos. Now the news agencies are allowed to upload videos, edit them, and set display time, along with many other features.

Can I post more than one item?
Yes, you can post as many items as you would like. You are charged for each post on a per daily basis. Therefore, if you have 10 items posted, each post will cost $1 per day for a total of $10 for that day.

How often can I change a video?
You can change your video or information that you have uploaded as often as you like.

Do you save my search history?
No. Scoop-Alert.com doesn't save your searches, but your browser probably does. You can save the link of the videos viewed along with the posting numbers for later review.

How do I upload a video?
Once you’ve finished editing your video, make sure it's no more than 30 seconds and you're ready to upload it in any format:

  1. Click "Upload Post" in the upper-left-hand corner of your Scoop-Alert account.
  2. Enter all the information about your video as, including Title, Description, Country, Category, The Start and End date between which you want your ad to be visible to the viewers etc.
  3. Click the "Browse" button to browse for the video files. Select the file you want to upload.
  4. Click the "Submit" button at the bottom to upload your video.
  5. Now the admin will check for any illegal or offensive content. Once this is done and the ad is approved, your post will be visible in the “My News” section.

What kinds of video content can I upload?
All videos on Scoop-Alert.com must comply with our Terms of Use. For further information, please see our Code of Conduct

What video file formats can I upload?
Scoop-Alert.com accepts video files from most digital cameras, and cell phones in the .WMV, .AVI, .MOV, and .MPG file formats.

How do I edit my video?
Most computers come with some sort of video editing application already installed, such as Apple iMovie or Microsoft Movie Maker. Using these programs, you can easily edit your videos, add soundtracks, change the file type, compress the file size, etc.

There are also more advanced editing programs available for purchase or download online. We encourage you to look around and find the editing software that's right for you.

How does the viewer view my video?
Once you have uploaded the video, the admin has to check the video for any offensive matter and thereafter activate the video if it is approved. The video becomes visible in you “My News” section in sometime. After being approved by the admin, the news videos can be viewed in whichever category they are. These news videos can be viewed in similar manner through mobile devices. The user logs onto Scoop-Alert.com via his cell phone or mobile device (link) and then login with its username as well as password and view the videos in its account.

How long will my video take to upload?
Depending on your connection speed and the size of the video, it can take anywhere from a few minutes to several hours to upload a video. Generally, if you have a high-speed Internet connection you can expect the upload to take somewhere between 1-5 minutes for every 1MB. However, the experience is different for every user because of the variation in connection speeds.

How long are my videos available on Scoop-Alert.com?
Videos stay on Scoop-Alert.com for the duration opted by the news agency while uploading video from its account (to change this user can visit the “Register to post news” section in its account. Videos which violate the Terms of Use may be taken down by Scoop-Alert.com.

How long can my video be?
All videos uploaded to Scoop-Alert.com have a 30 seconds time limit. The longer the video is, the more compression will be required to fit it into that time frame. For that reason, most videos on Scoop-Alert.com are under 30 seconds long.

Is there a limit to how many videos I can upload?
We don't have any limit for the number of videos you can upload, and don't foresee adding a ceiling anytime in the future. So start making videos and upload as many as you'd like—it's more content for the whole Scoop-Alert.com viewers to enjoy!

Do I have to have a camcorder to make videos?
No. While camcorders are a great way to make videos, there are other devices. You can make videos with a webcam, digital camera, or even some cell phones.

How do I make a video?
You'll need to have a device that can capture digital movies—this could be a digital camera, or even your cell phone! You copy the movies to your computer, and then you can either upload them as-is or edit them with software such as iMovie or Windows Movie Maker to add titles and special effects.

How do I use my webcam with Scoop-Alert.com?
You can use your webcam with Scoop-Alert.com. You can record video using the software that came with the camera, and then upload it to Scoop-Alert.com, with or without editing first.

How do I remove one of my videos?
To remove one of your videos, simply log in, click the "My News" link in the upper left corner of your account page and check the box next to edit section of the post you'd like to remove. Now click “Delete” option down below the list of posts. You can only remove videos that are checked.

How do I change or add to the information I entered about my video?

  1. Click the "My News" link in the upper left corner.
  2. Click the "Edit" link next to the video you want to edit.
  3. From the next screen, you can change, add to, or delete whatever information you'd like about your video, including duration of display.

What should I put in my video description (Title/Text Message)?
To best promote your video, you'll want its description to be both accurate and interesting. Here are a few tips to help you get started:
Make your description clear and specific: Your video should stand out from the crowd. Try to determine what content it contains that will help users find it and distinguish it from other videos. Using descriptive language in complete and short sentences is a good idea.
Categorize correctly: The category into which you place your video is part of its description as well. People are likely to watch it more frequently if it's placed in a relevant category.

Can all phones access Scoop-Alert.com?
About 90 percent of the phones on the market use 3GP language and will play your ad. However, everyone mobile phone subscriber is not connected to the Internet. However, the number of mobile phone who subscribes to Internet connection is increasing and we believe that eventually all mobile phones will have Internet access.

What is an .MSWMM file?
A .MSWMM file is a Windows Movie Maker project file. By saving the project, it allows you to return to the movie and make modifications at a later time. However, if you're satisfied with the movie and would like to upload and share your file through Scoop-Alert.com, you will need to choose "Save Movie File" under the "File" menu (which is different from "Save Project", which creates the .MSWMM file).

What is a .mov file?
Files saved with a .mov extension are QuickTime movies. They are often created by iMovie on a Mac, but other video editing programs can also save in this format. QuickTime .mov files can be uploaded to Scoop-Alert.com without any additional conversion.

Are all Scoop-Alert.com videos available on Scoop-Alert.com Mobile?
All the video in your account can be viewed through Scoop-Alert.com Mobile. Login with its username as well as password and view the videos in its account.

How do I navigate the Scoop-Alert.com Mobile Web site?
While different mobile devices use different keys and functions for navigation, they should behave somewhat similarly on Scoop-Alert.com
Use the up and down arrow keys to scroll through the various fields to view the videos that appear on the featured page.

Why was my account suspended?
Your account was suspended due to repeated or severe violation of our Terms of Use Users with suspended or terminated accounts are prohibited from creating new accounts or accessing Scoop-Alert.com features.

How does Scoop-Alert.com handle inappropriate content?
When Scoop-Alert.com users identify inappropriate content, as described in our Terms of Use and Code of Conduct, they are able to send us an e-mail mentioning the name and category and location. Such videos, will be promptly reviewed by Scoop-Alert.com administrators (24 hours a day, 7 days a week), who immediately remove any content that violates the Terms of Use.

Why was my video taken down?
Your video was taken down, after a review by Scoop-Alert.com staff, because of either inappropriate content or copyright violation, as defined by our Terms of Use. Please review the Scoop-Alert.com Code of Conduct for more information on how to stay out of trouble on Scoop-Alert.com.

How do I report copyright infringement?
If you are the copyright owner of a video and wish to report content being used without your permission, please follow Report of Offence.

How do I file a counter notice?
To file a counter notification with us, you must provide a written communication that sets forth the items specified below. Please note that you will be liable for damages (including costs and attorneys' fees) if you materially misrepresent that a product or activity that is not infringing the copyrights of others. Accordingly, if you are not sure whether certain material infringes the copyrights of others, we suggest that you first contact an attorney.
Please understand that filing a counter notice may lead to legal proceedings between you and the complaining party to determine ownership, and if your claim is rejected, you may face severe legal and financial penalties.

What if I believe I have been falsely accused of copyright infringement?
If you feel a content owner has misidentified your content as infringing, you may file a counter-notification.

What is your policy on copyright infringement?
Scoop-Alert.com respects the rights of copyright holders and publishers and requires all users to confirm they own the copyright or have permission from the copyright holder to upload content. We promptly remove content when properly notified. Repeat infringers' videos are removed and their accounts are terminated and permanently blocked from using Scoop-Alert.com. Why was my video removed for copyright while similar videos were not?
When we are notified or otherwise become aware that a particular video uploaded to our site infringes another's copyright, we respond promptly, as the law requires. If there remain videos on the site that appear similar to the one(s) we've removed, we are likely either not aware of them or do not have reason to believe they are infringing. Sometimes a copyright owner authorizes some, but not all, of its works to appear on our site. Other times, very similar videos are owned by different copyright owners, and one may grant permission while another does not.

Why can't I hear the audio when I'm watching a video?
To make sure that you hear sound while watching videos, please check the volume controls on your computer/mobile devices. Also, be sure to increase the volume on other conventional video players on your computer, such as Real Player or Windows Media. This may have an effect on your computer's master volume levels. Next, check to see if your system meets these requirements for running the video player:

  1. Macromedia Flash Player 7.0+ plug-in
  2. Windows 2000 or higher with latest updates installed
  3. Mac OS X 10.3 or higher
  4. Firefox 1.1+, Internet Explorer 5.0+, or Safari 1.0+
  5. Broadband connection with 500+ Kbps

Troubleshooting:

My upload had been running a long time and hasn't completed. What should I do?
Uploading a video can take several hours, depending on the length of your video and the demand on the servers. If your video upload is taking longer than 24 hours to complete, we recommend canceling the upload, checking the length and settings for your video, and uploading it again.

What does "Invalid file format error" mean?
"Invalid file format error" means that your video is in a format that our system does not accept. We accept most file formats, including .wmv, .mov, .mpg, or .avi. If your video meets these minimum requirements and still won't upload, it may be due to a problem with the video compression you are using.

If you're using Windows Movie Maker, it's also possible that you tried to upload your .MSWMM file. This is not an actual movie file. An .MSWMM file is a Windows Movie Maker project file. If you're satisfied with your movie, choose the "Save Movie File" option under the "File" menu to create a movie file that can be uploaded to Scoop-Alert.com.

I keep being asked to log in, even though I entered my username and password correctly. What should I do?
If you are unable to login with what you know to be your correct username and password, please ensure that you have cookies enabled. If your cookies are already enabled or enabling them doesn't resolve this issue, try clearing the browser's cache.

Failed (invalid file format)
This status message means that the file type of your video isn't supported by our site. Scoop-Alert.com does not currently accept videos in Flash (.flv) format. You may need to try using software other than the software that came with your camera, such as Windows Movie Maker (included with every Windows installation), or Apple iMovie. By opening your video file with one of these programs and then saving as .avi, .mpg, .wmv, or .mov, you should be able to upload your video with no problems.

Failed (unable to convert video file)
This message means that your video is in a format that our converters don't recognize. Try converting the video into a different format with a converter or editing program and then uploading it again.

Rejected (Terms of Use violation)
The video may have been rejected due to a Terms of Use or copyright violation. Please review our Terms of Use and Report of Offence.
